Responsibilities

  1. Prepare various meals and snacks including breakfast, lunch, dinner, alternative menus, special event catering foods, and dietary restricted foods following standardized recipes and production sheets.
  2. Ensure high-quality meals with appealing taste, smell, and presentation; which includes taste tests to maintain quality.
  3. Portion food appropriately and prepare alternate food items or additional quantities as requested by neighbors or others.
  4. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas; adheres to sanitation and safety protocols.
  5. Follow infection control and safety procedures, including proper hand washing, food preparation, storage, disposal, and wearing protective clothing and equipment.
  6. Adhere to safety procedures, federal and state regulations, and standard food handling practices; report hazardous conditions, defective equipment, accidents, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  7. Think and work independently as well as with direction.
  8. Communicate professionally in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  9. Attend training as assigned.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Subject to high humidity, high heat, and cold air in various work areas.
  • Subject to exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, taste and/or smell.
  • Regularly required to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Appropriate ergonomic and personal safety equipment provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years or equivalent experience in institutional cooking, prep cooking, or kitchen work preferred.
  • Must have or be willing to receive a hepatitis A vaccine prior to beginning work.
  • Ability to plan, organize, interpret, make independent decisions, and work professionally with others.
